Pulmonary Immunology & Physiology Core offers services

The Penn State College of Medicine/Penn State Health Pulmonary Immunology and Physiology (PIP) Core opened in spring 2015.

The core’s purpose is to aid investigators in the development and testing of small animal models to be used for pre-clinical pulmonary research.

It is a BSL2 facility that allows the assessment of pulmonary function related to many clinical situations. It offers services including oxygen profiling, infection and treatment, and the ability to deliver, measure and test the pre-clinical potential of therapeutic interventions via aerosol, as well as housing of the small animals used in these studies.

The PIP Core is in the College’s Department of Comparative Medicine (Room CG737) and is operated under the oversight of the Department of Pediatrics.
