Upcoming Events

Milton S. Hershey birthday celebration

All employees, faculty, staff and students are invited to a birthday celebration to honor Milton S. Hershey and help launch the new Hershey’s Heartwarming the World Campaign:

  • Thursday, Sept. 13
  • 6:30–7:30 p.m.
  • ChocolateTown Square

The event will feature remarks from Todd Tillemans, president, U.S., The Hershey Company, music by the Tunesters, cupcakes and chocolate bars and a presentation of the Heartwarming Project, which helps kids and families build positive social connections. In case of inclement weather, the event will take place inside The Hershey Story, and space will be limited.

Heart Walk

Dr. Thomas Chin, chief of pediatric cardiology and medical director of the Children’s Heart Group at Penn State Health Children’s Hospital, is leading a team in the American Heart Association’s (AHA) 2018 Capital Region Heart Walk:

  • Sunday, Sept. 16
  • Registration: 12:30 p.m.
  • Walk: 2 p.m.
  • City Island, Harrisburg

Participants can chose to walk one mile, three miles or both. Register or donate on the Heart Walk website.

Ice Cream social

Penn State Health Children’s Hospital invites all employees to an ice cream social celebrating its latest U.S. News & World Report rankings as one of the top children’s hospitals in the nation:

  • Tuesday, Sept. 18
  • 3:30-6 p.m.
  • Tree House Café

The Children’s Hospital ranked in cancer, cardiology and heart surgery, and nephrology in the 2018-2019 rankings.

Wellness Program

A new eight-week employer-sponsored wellness program for Penn State Health and Penn State College of Medicine employees will help those with arthritis, related rheumatic diseases, and musculoskeletal conditions:

The class is designed to help increase range of motion and flexibility, improve aerobic condition and endurance and build strength to perform duties in the work environment. Anyone who attends six out of the eight classes will have the usual $80 fee waived. Register online. Contact Adrienne Cray, class instructor, with questions.

Seminar Series

The next Bench to Bedside and Beyond Seminar Series will explore community-engaged research, resources available through the Community-Engaged Research Core and more:

  • “Engaging the Community in Research”
  • Monday, Sept. 24
  • Noon–1 p.m.
  • H4505 at Penn State College of Medicine or 116 Henderson at University Park

The seminar will also be streamed online via Zoom. Dr. Jennifer Kraschnewski, co-director of the institute’s Community-Engaged Research Core, Gina Brelsford, 2017-2018 Community-Engaged Research Fellow, and Dr. Deepa Sekhar, 2018-2019 Community-Engaged Research Fellow, will present on the topic.

Hispanic Heritage month

The Latinos y Amigos Medical Student Association will celebrate Hispanic Heritage Month at a gala:

  • Friday, Sept. 28
  • 7–10 p.m.
  • University Conference Center

The event honors Hispanic heritage among the Penn State community. RSVP at TicketLeap.com. Contact diversity@pennstatehealth.psu.edu with questions. Hispanic Heritage Month takes place from Sept. 15 through Oct. 15.

Workshop

Research Quality Assurance will present its quarterly regulatory workshop:

  • Strategic Sourcing and Contracting Procurement Process
  • Wednesday, Sept. 26

Scott Zernick, director, Value Analysis Program and interim director, Strategic Sourcing and Contracting, and Nancy Cosey, contract portfolio specialist, Penn State Health, will present.
