United Way fights hunger and feeds the souls of donors making a difference

Many people who never wondered where their next meal was coming from can suddenly be faced with hunger when misfortune strikes. United Way pledges help provide hot meals and hope to individuals, families and children year-round.

Hunger is preventable when a community unites to fight back.

United Way of the Capital Region’s Basic Needs program has fed more than 425,000 people in Dauphin, Cumberland and Perry counties and distributed 13 million pounds of food in the past year. The program also provides safe shelter for homeless people and domestic violence victims, emergency services during disasters and more.

United with Our Community

Penn State College of Medicine and Penn State Health’s 2018 United Way campaign runs through Friday Oct. 26. In addition to basic needs, United Way supports health care access, school readiness and workforce development.

The campaign has raised $71,828 so far toward the goal of $375,000.

Dr. Craig Hillemeier, dean, CEO and senior vice president for health affairs, is chair of the 2018 Live United™ campaign. The theme of the Penn State Health campaign is “United with our Community.”

Employees can designate their gift or pledge to a nonprofit organization of their choice or to the United Way general fund.
